Showcasing Good Practices: RECOS Project in the South-West Indian Ocean

The IOC’s “Resilience of Coastal Populations and Ecosystems in the South-West Indian Ocean” (RECOS) project is dedicated to identifying, capitalizing on, and disseminating good practices for the sustainable management of coastal areas in the region.

Good Practices Dissemination

To ensure these practices are easily accessible, the RECOS project disseminates them in the form of concise summary sheets. These sheets are tailored for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) stakeholders, making it simple for them to adopt and implement the highlighted practices. The sheets not only detail the characteristics of each good practice but also promote the expertise of the supporting structure behind them.

Structure of Good Practice Sheets

Each good practice sheet is succinct, spanning just three pages, and includes the following sections:

  1. The Supporting Structure: Details about the organization or entity that developed the good practice.
  2. Context and Description: An overview of the practice, including the circumstances under which it was developed and its specific components.
  3. Replicability Criteria and Challenges: Information on how the practice can be replicated in other contexts and potential obstacles that might arise.
  4. Socio-Economic and Environmental Benefits: A summary of the positive impacts of the practice on local communities and ecosystems.
  5. Innovative Character: Highlights what makes the practice unique and forward-thinking.

By providing these well-structured and accessible sheets, the RECOS project aims to promote the widespread adoption of sustainable coastal management practices across the South-West Indian Ocean region. Access the sheets here.
