Chumbe Island Coral Park (CHICOP) has emerged victorious at the inaugural ATTA® for Action Awards, clinching the title of the top destination in Africa for ethical wildlife experiences and exceptional contributions to natural habitat conservation.
The prestigious award was presented to the Chumbe team by His Excellency Dr. John G. Ndebele Seakgosing, Botswana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, during a grand ceremony at the ‘Experience Africa’ trade show. This event marked a record-breaking gathering for the African travel industry, drawing over 600 participants from 37 countries and underscoring global interest in African tourism.
The ATTA® for Action Awards celebrate companies that demonstrate outstanding commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism practices across Africa.
Judges praised Chumbe Island Coral Park for its profound impact on conservation and community welfare. The park has achieved remarkable biodiversity preservation, boasting high densities of fish and coral species. Scientific studies validate its success in creating a spillover effect that benefits local fisheries. Moreover, CHICOP’s initiatives have significantly improved livelihoods within the community and raised environmental awareness.
