For over a decade, Blue Ventures has dedicated efforts to the conservation of the Barren Isles, renowned for its rich biodiversity boasting 150 fish and 39 coral species. Since our inaugural visit in 2011, marked by the establishment of the Vezo Miray fishers’ association as co-managers, our journey has been nothing short of remarkable.
With resolute ministerial support, we are now closer than ever to realizing our goal of securing permanent protected status for the MPA, a pivotal milestone under our Blue Action Fund project. During the visit, ministers emphasized the MPA’s indispensable role in local ecosystems and the sustenance of thousands of livelihoods dependent on fisheries. Their reiterated support for Blue Ventures in this endeavor is both encouraging and empowering.
