Official Launch of WIOMPAN National Chapter in Madagascar

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone for the WIOMPAN network: its official launch in Madagascar. On November 27, 2023, a workshop was held at the Madagascar National Park Ambatobe, Antananarivo, attended by esteemed members of the MIHARI network.

The workshop featured participation from managers and co-managers of LMMA such as TGRN and TGRH, managers and co-managers of MPAs (MNP, BV, WCS, CI, MNHN, Asity, Famelona Fanamby, etc.), as well as representatives from CA MIHARI, BN MIHARI, the MIHARI Secretariat, CRC, IUCN, and special guests from MPEB, MEDD, MATSF, GEF6 AMP, FAPBM, and CORDIO.

The primary goal of the workshop was to welcome new national members and to officially establish the WIOMPAN National Chapter in Madagascar. Following the presentation of WIOMPAN to partners and fruitful discussions, new members joined our cause in Madagascar. The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote to establish the WIOMPAN National Chapter in Madagascar.

We are proud to announce that Guy Célestin RAKOTOVAO, the executive secretary of the MIHARI network, has been elected as the new head of the WIOMPAN MADAGASCAR National Chapter, with Landisoa Randimbison (Director of the Nosy Tanikely Marine Park – MNP) elected as deputy. Constructive suggestions from new members were considered, leading to the definition of the next steps for WIOMPAN MADAGASCAR.

These next steps include enhancing membership, including the possibility of online membership for those in remote regions or on the move. The new National Chapter and the national office will collaborate to define the Terms of Reference (TOR) and the future endeavors of WIOMPAN in Madagascar. We encourage active participation from National Chapter members in shaping the action plan.

A detailed minutes document was signed by all present members, marking the official commencement of the WIOMPAN National Chapter in Madagascar.

We eagerly anticipate officially announcing this new structure and action plan to all WIOMPAN members. Prepare for an exciting launch meeting where we will discuss expectations and commitments.

The MIHARI Secretariat is committed to providing ongoing support for the implementation of these actions and is ready to respond to any requests for additional information.
