WIOMPAN (the West Indian Ocean Marine Protected Areas Network) and WIOMSA (the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association) celebrates the incredible efforts of MPA practitioners who tirelessly work towards safeguarding our precious marine ecosystems.
We are truly inspired by the dedication and passion displayed by MPA practitioners, who serve as the guardians of our marine treasures. From researchers and conservationists to community leaders and park rangers, each one of you plays an instrumental role in creating a more sustainable and harmonious coexistence between humans and marine life.
We are delighted to announce a photo submission contest! We encourage you all to share your captivating photographs that exemplify the beauty and significance of Marine Protected Areas in one or more of the following categories:
- Marine Ecosystems in Your MPA: Showcase the mesmerizing landscapes and habitats that thrive under the protection of your MPA. Let’s highlight the diversity of marine life and ecosystems that call your MPA home.
- Marine Animals in Your MPA: Capture the awe-inspiring beauty of the marine creatures that benefit from the sanctuary of your MPA. From vibrant corals and graceful sea turtles to majestic whales and playful dolphins, every living being contributes to the richness of our oceans.
- Activities in Your MPA: Share moments that depict the dedicated work taking place within your MPA, such as monitoring efforts, patrolling for illegal activities, and engaging with local communities. Your actions lay the foundation for the success of marine conservation.
The winning photograph will be given a prominent place at the upcoming WIOMPAN workshop, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration to all participants. Furthermore, the talented photographer behind the winning image will receive a special prize as a token of appreciation for their exceptional contribution.
