MPA Mentorship Programme Launching Soon!

The Marine Protected Areas (MPA) mentorship programme is set to launch soon, offering a valuable opportunity for MPA practitioners in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) to enhance their skills, knowledge, and professional networks. This initiative recognizes the critical role mentorship plays in building a well-equipped and motivated workforce capable of addressing the growing challenges in marine conservation. By nurturing a new generation of conservation leaders, this program will help ensure the sustainability of the WIO’s rich marine ecosystems for future generations.

Building on the development of a mentorship framework for marine conservation practitioners in Kenya, WIOMSA is spearheading the creation of a comprehensive mentorship program tailored for the wider WIO region. The initiative aims to support the personal and professional growth of MPA practitioners by facilitating guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing between experienced mentors and emerging conservationists.

Key objectives of the program include strengthening the capacity of site managers and field operations staff through targeted mentorship initiatives. The program will also develop a structured mentorship framework, create mentorship tools, and establish monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure effectiveness. By addressing critical knowledge gaps and integrating innovative mentoring approaches, this initiative will empower practitioners and enhance MPA management across the region.
