The Toolkit has been designed to empower MPA managers to a) understand the level of protection afforded to marine mammals within MPA management plans, supporting their effective management and b) to allocate resources and take decisions to ensure that marine mammals are well represented in management plans during the process of MPA establishment.
The Toolkit also aims to build the technical capacities of MPA managers by sharing knowledge, expertise and good practices as well as creating a network of peers that can provide assistance to other MPA managers. As such, the Toolkit is composed of three core components: 23 factsheets centred around five core themes (Management Framework; Addressing Activities & Threats; Research & Monitoring; Outreach & Engagement; and Management Effectiveness); the Self-Assessment Tool; and Good Practices. I have included a summary flyer providing further information and you can access the toolkit here: www.marine-mammals.info.
This is currently the only Toolkit dedicated to marine mammals and MPAs.
