The BRIDGES Research Program is building an information system for research and management of marine social-ecological systems in the SWIO.

The BRIDGES INFORMATION project is developing a regional information system dedicated to the marine social-ecological systems of the southwest Indian Ocean. Hosted by the University of La Réunion and supported by IR Data Terra, it will centralize, secure and enhance the region’s environmental and socio-economic observation data, in a FAIR (Easy to Find, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) approach to better understand and manage these interconnected ecosystems.

This future tool (launched by 2026) aims to support research and integrated management on a regional scale, by meeting the major challenges of data fragmentation, heterogeneity and inaccessibility. It will be based on an open, sustainable and interoperable infrastructure, backed by the resources of the University of La Réunion.

If you are interested in this approach and would like to contribute or know more, please contact the BRIDGES INFORMATION team at pc1_bridges@services.cnrs.fr.

The BRIDGES – Fisheries and Biodiversity in the Western Indian Ocean research program aims to strengthen social and environmental resilience through ambitious collaborative research, and to support a future generation of stakeholders for the region. It is co-led by CNRS, Ifremer and IRD. Read more on: https://www.bridges-wio.com/2025/05/14/un-systeme-dinformation-pour-mieux-comprendre-et-gerer-les-socio-ecosystemes-marins-du-sud-ouest-de-locean-indien/
