Environmental Clubs – Mafia Island Marine Park

The Mafia Island Marine Park (MIMP) conducts training related to conservation activities as part of a special program aimed at providing conservation education in primary schools, secondary schools, and vocational Colleges.

These ongoing training sessions have been provided to five primary schools, one secondary school, and one vocational college, all located within marine conservation areas. The program aims to build the capacity of a total of 840 students, including 640 from primary schools, 160 from secondary schools, and 40 from the vocational college (VETA).

Through this training, led by an expert from the Marine Park and Reserved Areas, students have learned about the importance of the ocean and its resources, such as mangroves, coral reefs, seagrasses, and marine organisms, including fish. Additionally, they have gained knowledge about ecology and received guidance on sustainable harvesting methods to prevent resource depletion. The training emphasizes avoiding harmful practices like bomb fishing and using small-mesh nets, which can contribute to the destruction of marine resources.

Furthermore, students are encouraged to become conservation ambassadors, spreading awareness of responsible fishing methods and ensuring the long-term preservation of marine resources. This initiative is shaping the next generation of environmental stewards!
