Women play a crucial role in marine conservation, yet their contributions often go unrecognized. Across the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region, women are actively involved in protecting marine ecosystems such as cleanliness and collection of plastic around the ocean, mangrove restoration, leading community initiatives, and advocating for sustainable ocean management. In marine conservation meetings and teaching the inspiring stories of women making a difference in Marine Protected Area (MPA) as management showcasing their leadership, challenges, and achievements. By empowering women in ocean protection, we strengthen conservation efforts and create more inclusive, sustainable solutions for the future of our marine ecosystems.
I’m highly excited about empowering women in conservation of marine protected areas since women are good change makers thus making the marine environment sound and sustainable.
