The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), through the Ocean Country Partnership Programme, funded by the UK International Development Blue Planet Fund: Western Indian Ocean Region, has played a pivotal role in advancing WIOMPAN’s activities and impact this year. Their steadfast support has been instrumental in strengthening capacity and fostering collaboration across the region.
This year, JNCC enabled the participation of representatives from Madagascar and Mozambique in key WIOMPAN activities. They facilitated the attendance of Madagascar and Mozambique candidates at the Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMA) Forum held in Madagascar from 26–29 September 2024, and supported the participation of the Madagascar and Mozambique WIOMPAN country chapter leaders at the WIOMPAN Regional Capacity Strategy Workshop and General Meetings from 21–24 October 2024.
This is the second consecutive year JNCC has supported WIOMPAN’s regional meeting, having been a key funding partner for the November 2023 meeting. Their commitment continues to strengthen regional collaboration, build capacity, and promote sustainable ocean governance in the Western Indian Ocean region. WIOMPAN is deeply grateful for their ongoing partnership and significant contributions to our shared goals.
