La Réunion’s Marine Natural Reserve recently hosted its highly anticipated 3rd scientific forum on June 28 and 29, 2023, bringing together experts, partners, and stakeholders in a dynamic exploration of the theme “Cartography in all its states.” On the first day, a diverse group of sixty partners gathered to map and list ongoing projects within the Marine Reserve’s perimeter, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the initiatives in progress. These projects were intricately linked to the management objectives of the Marine Reserve, highlighting the collective efforts to preserve and sustain the marine ecosystem. During this session, Marine Reserve agents presented their own scientific projects, emphasizing the importance of mapping scientific monitoring and usage. Additionally, they showcased the Marine Reserve’s second management plan and outlined the future funding opportunities available through partnerships, emphasizing the commitment to long-term sustainability. The second day unfolded as an open forum, inviting participants to actively contribute and engage in discussions centered around the crucial question: “How can we ensure that field studies align with the objectives of the Marine Reserve’s managers, leading to appropriate and consistent management measures?” In vibrant discussion groups, various topics were explored to generate ideas that would support the reserve’s management objectives. Participants delved into subjects such as “identifying tools and methods for enhanced project visibility and widespread dissemination of knowledge,” “optimizing ecological monitoring networks,” and “improving communication channels with decision-makers.” These discussions provided valuable insights and actionable strategies to enhance the effectiveness of research and management efforts within the Marine Reserve. The overarching goal of the forum was to launch innovative ideas and identify study subjects that align with the Marine Reserve’s management objectives. By fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and creative thinking, the event served as a catalyst for advancing conservation practices and ensuring the sustainable future of the Marine Natural Reserve of La Réunion. As the 3rd scientific forum drew to a close, participants left inspired and motivated, armed with new perspectives and strategies to drive positive change. La Réserve Naturelle Marine de La Réunion a organisé les 28 et 29 juin 2023, son 3ème forum scientifique. Le thème développé sur deux journées était « La cartographie dans tous ses états ». La 1ère journée, la soixantaine de partenaires a cartographié, listé, les projets en cours sur le périmètre de la Réserve Marine et de les relier à ses objectifs de gestion. Les agents de la Réserve Marine ont présenté leurs projets scientifiques de cartographies des suivis scientifiques et des usages, le 2ème plan de gestion de la Réserve Marine et les futurs financements des partenaires. La 2ème journée s’est déroulée sous la forme d’un forum ouvert, où les participants ont sélectionné des sujets tournant autour de la thématique centrale : « Comment faire pour que les études de terrain soient en adéquation avec les objectifs des gestionnaires / avoir des mesures de gestion adaptées et cohérentes ? » Les groupes de discussion ont développé des sujets tels que « quel(le) outil / méthode pour une meilleure visibilité des projets et permettre leur meilleure diffusion et connaissances auprès de tous », « comment optimiser les réseaux de suivis écologiques ?», « comment améliorer la communication auprès des décideurs ? ». Ces deux journées ont ainsi eu pour but de lancer des idées sur des sujets d’études répondant aux objectifs de gestion de la RNMR.
