Tima Dago, a passionate conservationist from the southern coast of Kenya, shares her inspiring journey in marine conservation. Growing up in a coastal village, she developed a deep love for the ocean and its marine environment. Tima’s childhood experiences, including unsustainable fishing practices, fueled her determination to protect marine biodiversity.
After joining the Kenya Wildlife Service as a ranger, Tima’s dedication led her to pursue further education in wildlife and marine management. Balancing her job, studies, and family responsibilities, she successfully completed a diploma and a bachelor’s degree in marine studies.
Tima’s commitment to marine conservation extends beyond her duties as a ranger. She actively engages in community education and awareness programs, organizing beach cleanups, and conducting aquatic monitoring and surveys. She also participates in seagrass restoration projects, ensuring the recovery of degraded ecosystems.
As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, Tima encourages other women to embrace marine conservation work. She strives to empower her colleagues and promote gender diversity in the Kenya Wildlife Service. Tima calls on both local and international communities to support sustainable practices and protect marine resources.
