Thanda Island has been named a winner of the World Travels Award 2021 in the category of Africa’s Leading Luxury Island 2021. The island is an eco-hotel located in Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve in Mafia District, Pwani Region, Tanzania. Shungimbili Island and its surrounding waters in the Indian Ocean was proclaimed as a Marine Reserve under the auspices of the Marine Parks and Reserves Unit in 2007. The Island is located in the Mafia channel, between Mafia Island and mainland Tanzania.
