The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Tanzania Marine Program is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to provide training on monitoring, control & surveillance to MPA Managers in Zanzibar. WCS is supporting the implementation of the USAID Heshimu Bahari Activity led by Chemonics\u00a0International, which aims to strengthen the existing network of MPAs in Tanzania.\u00a0There is a need to strengthen the capacity of institutions and stakeholders in monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS) across Zanzibar. To support this mission, updated MCS strategies tailored to the existing capacity and infrastructures of the institutions have been developed. A plan for further improvement has also been developed. This request for proposals aims at improving capacity at sea through assessing current skills, creating or updating standard operating procedures, and training patrol teams for safe and effective operations at sea.<\/p>\n

Request for proposals<\/strong>:\u00a0MPAs Sustainable Finance Consultancy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Tanzania Marine Program is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to provide Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) Sustainable Finance Consultancy.<\/p>\n

WCS and partners are tackling the issue of deteriorating marine environments in the Western Indian Ocean by expanding MPAs and improving their management. WCS is currently leading a Blue Action Fund project which aims to protect two sites on either side of the Pemba Channel: an existing MPA on mainland Tanzania\u2014the Tanga Coelacanth Marine Park (TACMP)\u2014and \u00a0a new MPA on Pemba Island in Zanzibar to \u00a0the east of the existing Pemba Channel Conservation Area (PECCA) in the Zanzibar arc9hipelago, which will complete \u00a0a system of Marine Conservation \u00a0Areas surrounding \u00a0the islands of Unguja and Pemba. The project will aim to build ecosystem and community resilience through improved, habitat conservation and restoration, improved governance in local communities, and application of ecosystem-based climate adaptation solutions at selected sites.\u00a0Financial sustainability will be at the core of the project, with activities in support of revenue generation for communities and MPAs that will be developed, providing resources for stakeholders to strengthen the conservation of critical ecosystems while protecting livelihoods.<\/p>\n

This contract seeks a consultant to evaluate the financial situation of TACMP and EPECA. The consultant will work with Tanzania\u2019s Marine Reserves under Marine Parks and Reserves Unit and Zanzibar\u2019s Marine Conservation Department, responsible for managing these respective MPAs.\u00a0Interested consultants are invited to submit an electronic Expression of Interest (EOI) through\u00a0wcstanzania@wcs.org<\/a>\u00a0, addressed to WCS Country Director P.O.
