The Varuna program is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and implemented by Expertise France. It aims to contribute to halting biodiversity loss in the southwest Indian Ocean islands, through raising the awareness of private actors on the issues related to ecological transition. In this context, Varuna\u2019s teams announced on May 5th, 2023 the creation of the Indian Ocean Business-Biodiversity fund, intended to companies and business federations located in Madagascar, Union of Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles. This fund, with an overall budget of 2.5 million euros \u2013 is meant to support the projects led by economic actors, in partnership with civil society organizations (CSOs). The fund will finance actions that promote biodiversity, in terms of preservation and restoration of marine and\/or terrestrial ecosystems, projects which are economically viable, exemplary and reproducible on a regional scale. Applicant companies will be assessed on their ability to implement nature-based solutions, for example, and to integrate the notion of natural capital into their activities.<\/p>\n

For more details, the financial aid provided to each project will be between \u20ac10,000 and \u20ac500,000, up to a limit of 50% of the company\u2019s annual turnover. Varuna\u2019s co-financing can reach up to 90% of the total amount of the project. And each financed project will have to be carried out over a maximum duration of 24 months.<\/p>\n

The deadline for applications is June 19th<\/b><\/strong>, 2023 at 2:00 pm (Madagascar time).<\/p>\n

DE L\u2019OC\u00c9AN INDIEN \u00c0 PR\u00c9SERVER LA BIODIVERSIT\u00c9<\/p>\n

Le programme Varuna, financ\u00e9 par l\u2019Agence fran\u00e7aise de d\u00e9veloppement et mis en oeuvre par Expertise France, vise \u00e0 lutter contre l\u2019\u00e9rosion de la biodiversit\u00e9 des \u00eeles du sud ouest de l\u2019oc\u00e9an Indien. Et, notamment, en sensibilisant les acteurs priv\u00e9s aux enjeux de la transition \u00e9cologique. Dans ce cadre, les \u00e9quipes de Varuna annoncent ce 5 mai 2023 la cr\u00e9ation du Fonds Business Biodiversit\u00e9 Oc\u00e9an Indien, destin\u00e9 aux entreprises et f\u00e9d\u00e9rations d\u2019entreprises, install\u00e9es sur les territoires de Madagascar, de l\u2019Union des Comores, de Maurice et des Seychelles. Cette initiative, dot\u00e9e d\u2019une enveloppe globale de 2,5 millions d\u2019euros, doit permettre d\u2019accompagner les projets port\u00e9s par des acteurs \u00e9conomiques, en partenariat avec des organisations de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 civile (OSC). Le fonds financera des actions favorables \u00e0 la biodiversit\u00e9, en terme de pr\u00e9servation et de restauration des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes marins et-ou terrestres. Des projets \u00e9conomiquement viables, exemplaires et reproductibles \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle r\u00e9gionale. Les entreprises candidates seront par exemple \u00e9valu\u00e9es sur leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 mettre en oeuvre des solutions fond\u00e9es sur la nature et \u00e0 int\u00e9grer la notion de capital naturel dans leurs activit\u00e9s. Dans le d\u00e9tail, les aides financi\u00e8res apport\u00e9es \u00e0 chaque projet seront comprises entre 10 000 et 500 000\u20ac, dans la limite de 50% du chiffre d\u2019affaires annuel de l\u2019entreprise. Le co-financement apport\u00e9 par Varuna pourra atteindre 90% du montant total du projet. Et chaque projet financ\u00e9 devra se d\u00e9rouler sur une dur\u00e9e maximale de 24 mois.<\/p>\n

La date limite de candidature est fix\u00e9e au 19 juin 2023 \u00e0 14h (heure de Madagascar).<\/p>\n
