The governance of protected and conserved areas is a key issue in the Eastern and Southern African region, and much progress has been made in recognising diverse governance types and improving governance at the site level. Nonetheless, there is a great need to better understand what a well governed site looks like, why this is important and how it can lead to the effective management of natural resources. In this series of online events, we will cover both the theoretical concepts underpinning good governance and the international background and guidance, and invite a variety of stakeholders to present their perspective, and explain
\nhow they approach governance in their local context. The intention is to share experiences and knowledge in the region, adding, where needed, some international perspectives to provide additional ideas.
\nIn line with the tagline for BIOPAMA, each module of the training is designed to be \u201cFrom knowledge to action\u201d in the following way:
\n1. A segment on \u201cKnowledge\u201d: Explaining the key concepts, the reason and meaning behind these and the latest IUCN guidance.
\n2. A segment on \u201cAction\u201d: How to get started and take practical steps in the ongoing process of assessing governance for conservation outcomes, including rich
\ndiscussions on participant perspectives. These will be complemented by a series of solutions from the PANORAMA platform.<\/p>\n

\nThe overall goal of the training will be to improve the understanding of governance as a concept as well as gain knowledge and better understand various governance approaches and types that are successful in this region and beyond. The intention is to equip participants with knowledge and practical steps towards fair and equitable management of resources which they can apply in their own areas of influence. The overall goal is to create and develop a community of governance practitioners in the region, who may further their knowledge in governance practice.<\/p>\n
