My core competencies are leadership and governance skills, stakeholder engagement, financial management, and resource mobilization, communication, and marine resource knowledge.<\/p>\n

Being an MPA PRO has made me be promoted from ranger cadre to being a manager of a protected area (Warden). When need be am deployed to the nearest MPA for supervisory work. This is because the skills which I gained during the assessment made me improve on my work performance in both competencies and made my supervisors realize that I can be a leader. I was able to show competence in the different competencies in my daily activities. I engaged stakeholders and made them realize that through natural resource conservation they can generate revenue for their livelihoods by participating in conservation and sustainable use of the marine resources. This has made communities protect the marine resources and generate revenue from eco-tourism and beekeeping activities at Mida Creek. This has created a positive impact since communities have realized the value of conservation. Butterfly farmers from the community also visit the forest for a collection of butterflies for breeding for butterfly farming as a source of income generation at Arabuko forest. This has also reduced pressure on marine resources since there is provision of alternative livelihoods and positive perception by the community on natural resource conservation. Below is a recent picture of Mangrove restoration activity at Mida Creek with community and government officials (Kenya forest Service, Huduma, and Kilifi County Commissioner) participating in mangrove planting where 2000 seedlings were planted.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n

He also has extensive knowledge of marine law enforcement knowledge and the successful application of various methodologies to deal with marine related transgressions, including organized environmental crimes. Further hereto, his experience in estuary management and the success thereto resulted in the adoption of an estuarine resident fish species monitoring project as well as invasive fish species monitoring project which he initiated with Scientific Services which was subsequently taken over by an NGO, The Nature\u2019s Valley Trust. He has since left the employ of the South African National Parks and has successfully established his own environmental consultancy business dealing with various facets of environmental, marine protected as well as areas of protected area management.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n

I have 9 years of experience in the field of conservation as a customer care assistant under the Kenya Wildlife Service, Strategy, and Change Division. I have experience working in both Terrestrial and Marine Protected Areas; having worked in Lake Nakuru National Park for 5 years since 2011 and currently based in Malindi Marine National Park and Reserve. I have a background in Wildlife Management and am currently in my final year of study at the University of Nairobi, pursuing a BSc in Environmental Conservation and Natural Resources Management. I have excellent communication skills, information management, and data entry and analysis skills gained through her course of work on customer relations. I am also a team leader for Strategic Adaptive Management in my MPA where I am is involved in stakeholder engagement with local community boat operators and tourists in general. I was certified as a WIO-COMPAS Level 1 MPA Professional in the year 2020.<\/p>\n

Being an MPA PRO has helped me improve my understanding of the role of Marine Protected Areas and its links with tourism and the general livelihood support to the local communities. I have also improved my understanding of the financial and human resources mobilization in marine conservation. There has been improved engagement and good cooperation between the management of my MPA and various stakeholders through their active participation in MPA activities. The perception of the local community about the MPA has also changed through building community ownership and empowerment by developing a strong sense of responsibility and improved compliance to the processes, regulations, and procedures of the management of my MPA.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n

I have 9 years of experience in the field of conservation as a customer care assistant under the Kenya Wildlife Service, Strategy, and Change Division. I have experience working in both Terrestrial and Marine Protected Areas; having worked in Lake Nakuru National Park for 5 years since 2011 and currently based in Malindi Marine National Park and Reserve. I have a background in Wildlife Management and am currently in my final year of study at the University of Nairobi, pursuing a BSc in Environmental Conservation and Natural Resources Management. I have excellent communication skills, information management, and data entry and analysis skills gained through her course of work on customer relations. I am also a team leader for Strategic Adaptive Management in my MPA where I am is involved in stakeholder engagement with local community boat operators and tourists in general. I was certified as a WIO-COMPAS Level 1 MPA Professional in the year 2020.<\/p>\n

Being an MPA PRO has helped me improve my understanding of the role of Marine Protected Areas and its links with tourism and the general livelihood support to the local communities. I am also keen in taking photos for Education\/Awareness purpose and under water Crime scene investigation. I like to BMU\u2019s and LMMA\u2019s to coordinate and networking with a view to complement one another and achieve conserving lager protected area. I am a PADI Open Water and EFR Instructor; hence Trained\/Teach Diving registered courses. I won Africa Rangers Award in 2018. \u00a0I am also a Wio MPA professional\u00a0 certify Level 2. I have participated in drafting of both Malindi\/Watamu MPA Management plan as well as that of Wasini LMMA. I have took part in WIO Certification of MPA level 1as Assessor trainee in 2018. Currently working on establishing programmes on would allow establishment of department that would focus Staffs\/Stakeholders Marine Knowledge and Skills. I am also a member of the team that preparing Kenya Sea Turtle Protocol that is about to be release.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/div>
