Exploring the stock status of squids and environmental conditions influencing their abundance along the Tanzania coastal waters: Case study Tanga and Kilwa Kivinje – Tanzania

Awareness creation for managers and fishers on the importance of daily recording squid data, use and how to influence decision making was enhanced. This was realized following this study that indicted the artisanal fishery and population dynamics of dominant squid species in Tanzania coastal waters by using local fishers as enumerators. The study showed the distribution and abundance (CPUE of dominant species) by seasons, size caught, fishing gear employed, mortality rate, exploitation ratio and recruitment pattern of the squid species. These variables generate information that estimate the squid population, the time to maximize exploitation and the risks associated with exploitation.
